Kenny Omega Reunites With Kota Ibushi

Do you ever want to escape the stresses of work by flying to Japan and eating cake and playing video games with an old friend? Well, that’s just what Kenny Omega has done.

The last few weeks are sure to have been some of the most stressful in the career of Kenny Omega. He returned from nine months out due to an injury to great acclaim, helping The Elite make it to the final of the AEW Trios Championship Tournament at All Out.

Faced with doing battle with his former tag team partner turned rival Adam Page, Omega and The Young Bucks overcame the Hangman and his Dark Order teammates to be crowned inaugural AEW Trios Champions, and then things fell apart very quickly.

CM Punk fired off at the post-All Out media scrum which led to a fight with The Bucks in which Kenny Omega is said to have been bitten by Punk’s friend and AEW producer Ace Steel. It was later reported that Omega’s initial involvement was to try and take Punk’s dog Larry to safety while all hell broke loose.

Suspensions were handed out with Kenny Omega among those suspended and he and The Young Bucks were stripped of their Trios Championship.

Now Omega is in a place very familiar to him – Tokyo, Japan – with another suspended AEW star, Michael Nakazawa. As seen on social media, however, Omega has also reunited with another old friend, his former Golden Lover tag team partner, Kota Ibushi.

Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi first teamed together back in 2009 in DDT Pro spending the best part of five years as a team before Omega embarked on a run in New Japan Pro Wrestling as part of Bullet Club. The two men reunited in 2018 before Omega finally won the IWGP World Championship in a classic bout against Kazuchika Okada.

Kota Ibushi has not wrestled since October 2021 and his current relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling is unclear after he made public some of the issues he was having with the company.
