Jeff Hardy has opened up about being brought to tears by a phone call with WWE before he made his debut in AEW!

Before his two-year stint at AEW, Jeff Hardy’s second WWE run ended unceremoniously in late 2021 when he unexpectedly walked out of a match during a live event. A few days later, Hardy was released after reportedly refusing to go to rehab – though his brother Matt Hardy later claimed a drug relapse was not the cause.

WWE would attempt to bring Jeff back to the company in the months following, even going as far as to offer him a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame. However, Hardy ultimately turned down the offer and went on to join Matt in AEW.

During an interview with Busted Open, the multi-time WWE Champion confirmed that he turned down the offer, despite getting emotional over it, as he didn’t feel right entering the WWE Hall of Fame without his brother.

“I cried after that phone call. I was just thinking about all the really cool moments I’ve given to the pro-wrestling world. I’m so proud of it, but it didn’t feel right at all. So, I just wanted to wait. If I did do this, I’m definitely doing that with Matt.”

Jeff Hardy Admits He Feels “Guilt And Shame” Over AEW Run

In the same interview, Jeff Hardy admitted that he deeply regrets how his AEW run turned out, particularly in costing himself and Matt Hardy a run with the AEW World Tag Team Championship – a plan which was scrapped due to his arrest in June 2022.

Hardy went on to vow that he would not break TNA’s trust and shared his goal of winning the TNA World Tag Team Championship to make up for that incident with his brother.
