Following positive updates on Kenny Omega and Adam Cole, could CM Punk and Bryan Danielson also be nearing a return?
It appears that the injury curse that struck down AEW just a few months ago could be easing. It has been a very trying time for the company in recent weeks and months as they have been without their World Champion CM Punk, as well as other main event stars Adam Cole, Kenny Omega and Bryan Danielson. Although this could soon be changing.
It was recently reported that Adam Cole will not be undergoing surgery to repair a shoulder problem and is recovering well from his other concussion related issues. While it has also been noted that Omega could be nearing a return.
Following up on an earlier report which suggested that AEW were holding off on booking FTR vs. The Young Bucks due to The Bucks being set for big storyline, it was suggested that storyline will involve Kenny Omega. With the former AEW World Champion teaming with the Jackson Brothers at All Out in September.
Furthermore, Dave Meltzer has confirmed that Omega is targeting a return at the event, although it is considered too early to say that he will be there for certain. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer also hinted that this is also the case for CM Punk and Bryan Danielson.
“He’s hoping to be at All Out, but it’s too soon to say that he will or he won’t. It’s not… he’s hoping for it. That’s kind of the target right now. The Chicago show is a target for that, I think it’s the target for Punk, but I don’t think that either of them are sure things.
It’s probably the target for Danielson too. All of those guys coming back would probably give them a shot in the arm. Omega, basically, doesn’t really wanna talk about it, and nothing’s for sure. But he would like to be back for that show, that would be a good idea. That’s the hope.”
CM Punk has been missing since revealing that he needed to undergo surgery, in the same week that he won the AEW World Championship from Page at Double or Nothing. Danielson has also been out since the same show with an undisclosed injury. It is believed that the issue is concussion related.
