Kenny Omega has been absent from AEW for nine months, but that could be about to change.
Former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega has been out of action since losing his prized title at Full Gear in November 2021 to Hangman Adam Page.
After the loss, Omega confirmed that he would be taking a break from the ring to “fix things.”
At the time it was noted that Omega was dealing with a number of injuries, including a torn labrum in his shoulder, a hernia and issues with his knees. The star himself also revealed that he had been struggling with vertigo since 2018.
Although there was no timeframe given for a potential return, it had initially been expected that he could be back as early as February or at Forbidden Door in June, but “The Cleaner” remains on the side-lines.
However, a new update from Fightful Select has suggested that he might not be for much longer. The report expands on a line from Dave Meltzer who suggested that AEW were holding off on booking Young Bucks vs. FTR III because there was a “major angle” involving The Bucks in the works. Fightful report that the rumour is that the angle involves Omega.
Tentative plans that “certain staff” have been made aware of will see Omega team with The Bucks in a six-man tag team match at All Out in September. Although the note comes with the caution that plans can change. Omega did return to the road earlier this year, but removed himself as he felt it was slowing his recovery.
There has been no official confirmation given regarding Kenny Omega’s return, nor is there a specific date in mind. The information above relates to what staff and talent have been told.
Kenny Omega recently claimed that he would be “done” if he suffered another serious injury.
