There’s several reasons why Baron Corbin and Mustafa Ali have joined WWE NXT.
Both Corbin and Ali joined the black and gold brand on last week’s episode and according to a new report from Fightful Select, their new residency is not just random. The two’s “free agent” label following the WWE Draft was because the company did have the intention of moving them to Tuesday nights with an inside source telling them that there was more of a plan “for them this time.”
One simple reason for Ali’s jump is because a lot of names on the roster wants to work with the talented veteran and Ali expressed a willingness to do so.
How The Move Should Benefit All Parties In NXT
While from the surface, a move down to NXT could seem like a downgrade for veteran talent on the main roster, the goal for Ali and Corbin is to give them both an opportunity to hit the refresh button on their personas. The hope is also to garner added interest in the NXT product. Additionally, the two’s presence on the show will help some of the current roster familiarize themselves with what it’s like to work a “main roster TV” style and can give the team a better gauge as to how some of the younger talent is developing in between the ropes.
Corbin certainly made his presence known last week as he delivered an “End Of Days” to current NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes while Ali made the save for Wes Lee and Tyler Bate against The Dyad. Both follow in the footsteps of Apollo Crews and Dolph Ziggler as stars to re-establish themselves on the brand.
