Two WWE NXT Stars Have Been Released

WWE NXT Schism The Dyad Rip Fowler Jagger Reid Ava Duke Hudson

Earlier today, it was reported that WWE NXT stars Rip Fowler and Jagger Reid had requested their releases from WWE.

According to the report from Fightful Select, the duo, who were recently in action at Stand & Deliver, requested to be released from their contracts and while there is no specific information available about their visa status or non-compete clauses, it is expected that they will be subject to some sort of non-compete, likely 30 days as is standard for NXT talent.

In an update, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reports that the stars’ releases have indeed been granted and they are done with the company.

Neither Reid nor Fowler have commented publicly on their releases, but Reid teased a change on social media following Stand & Deliver when he tweeted:

“Dark match. Pre show. Main show. Different names. It doesn’t matter. We’ll always deliver. We’ll always be π—šπ—Ώπ—Άπ˜‡π˜‡π—Ήπ—²π—±.”

The UK duo have been a part of the promotion for several years and have appeared for NXT UK, NXT and WWE Live Events.

Reid, also known as James Drake, signed with WWE in 2017 for the United Kingdom Championship Tournament. Fowler, better known as Zack Gibson, signed the following year as the UK brand prepared to launch.

Starting as singles wrestlers they began teaming up toward the end of 2018 for both PROGRESS and as part of NXT UK. They captured the PROGRESS Tag Team Championships before defeating Mustache Mountain TakeOver: Blackpool to become the inaugural NXT UK Tag Team Champions.

They went on to hold the titles for 231 days before dropping them to Flash Morgan Webster and Mark Andrews at TakeOver: Cardiff.

Following the loss, they headed stateside to join the original black and gold version of the brand. They debuted in 2020 in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and reached the finals defeating Kushida and Alex Shelley, and The Undisputed ERA along the way. However, they lost to the BroserWeights.

They remained a solid part of the tag team division, but upon the 2.0 launch of the brand, they aligned themselves with Joe Gacy as part of The Schism and received the new names of Rip Fowler and Jagger Reid, with the duo now being called The Dyad. Dwayne Johnson’s daughter Ava was the most recent member to join the group, adding a female presence to the faction before they began to feud with Chase U.

Chase U Defeated The Schism At WWE NXT Stand & Deliver

On the Stand & Deliver pre-show as part of WrestleMania weekend, The Schism and Chase U finally came face to face in an eight-person mixed tag team match. Fowler and Reid were joined by Joe Gacy and Ava in the match, while Thea Hail was joined by Andre Chase, Duke Hudson, and new Chase U ally Tyler Bate.

Hail has been tormented by The Schism for months, ever since she was kidnapped by Ava on a recent episode of NXT TV, and she was full of energy and vigor throughout the match as she sought retribution. Duke Hudson teased turning on his Chase U teammates before revealing his joining The Schism was only a ruse. In the end, he scored the pinfall victory for his team.
