WWE Title To Be Defended For First Time Ever At SummerSlam

WWE Star Claims They Were Robbed Of SummerSlam Pay

A WWE championship will be defended at SummerSlam for the first time.

WWE introduced the Women’s Tag Team Championship in 2018 and the following year, awarded the titles to Sasha Banks and Bayley, making the Boss ‘N’ Hug connection the inaugural champions. Their reign lasted for 49 days before they dropped it to Billie Kay and Peyton Royce of The IIconics.

Although the title has seen success and recognized more women, the gold has also faced challenges. The ‘curse’ of the championship began in 2022 when the then reigning champions, Banks and Naomi, walked out of WWE due to creative differences, leading to the gold being vacated for a while.

In 2023, Chelsea Green’s partner, former WWE Superstar Sonya Deville, was injured when they held the gold. In 2024, Jade Cargill was written off following Naomi’s attack, leaving Bianca Belair a solo champion for a while, before The Glow replaced The Storm. This year, Liv Morgan of The Judgment Day got injured and has been replaced by Roxanne Perez to defend it with Raquel Rodriguez.

However, it looks like things are finally looking up for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship en route to SummerSlam.

Although Roxanne and Raquel’s initial partnership didn’t start gracefully, as Rodriguez doesn’t trust Perez, their relationship improved when they successfully defended the gold at Evolution against Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss, Sol Ruca & Zaira, and The Kabuki Warriors in a Fatal 4-Way.

Another notable thing during the Evolution tag team match was that the unlikely alliance between Bliss and Flair had improved. It was later revealed that since Alexa or Charlotte weren’t pinned, they secured a Women’s Tag Team Championship match at WWE SummerSlam.

Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez versus Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss for the Women’s Tag Team Championship at The Biggest Party of the Summer will mark the first time the titles will be defended at SummerSlam’s main show. In 2019, the titles were defended by Bliss and Nikki Cross against The IIconics during the pre-show.

It will be interesting to see who will walk out as the Women’s Tag Team Champions at SummerSlam.
