WWE Storyline Back On After Being “Halted” In July

Triple H WWE Raw

WWE is seemingly once again pushing ahead with big plans for JD McDonagh.

After arriving on the main roster following the WWE Draft, McDonagh was routinely linked with Finn Balor and possibly a role within the Judgment Day. McDonagh and Balor have an extensive history, with the latter training the younger star back in Ireland.

The pair began to interact on television together, and it was strongly hinted a union was coming, however, a couple of weeks later, McDonagh disappeared from television, and the storyline was seemingly dropped. This was followed by a report that suggested WWE’s plans for McDonagh had been “halted.”

Just as this news was settling, things changed once more. On the August 7th episode of the show, McDonagh was seen hanging around with Balor backstage. In one segment, Damian Priest approached to discuss “Judgment Day business” only for Balor to say that anything Priest wanted to say he could do so in front of McDonagh.

As Priest and Balor addressed their future, and Rhea Ripley tried to smooth out the tension, McDonagh dipped in with advice, completely uninvited. This led Priest to question why the former NXT star was getting involved.

Later in the show, McDonagh attacked Sami Zayn who had been due to team with Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes to take on Judgment Day in the main event.

When Did JD McDonagh Join WWE?

JD McDonagh signed with WWE in 2016 and initially performed under the name Jordan Devlin. The star took part in the tournament to crown the first-ever NXT United Kingdom Champion and appeared in NXT UK before moving to WWE’s third brand in the United States.

While with NXT, McDonagh won the Cruiserweight Title and feuded with the likes of Ilja Dragunov, Cameron Grimes, and Santos Escobar.
