Randy Orton has recalled the instructions he was given by neurologists while out injured.
After dropping the Raw Tag Team Championships to The Usos in May 2022, Orton was sidelined with a back injury for over a year. While away from TV, the WWE star’s father Bob Orton spoke in an interview and revealed that doctors advised The Apex Predator to not return to the ring. Due to the severity of the injury, the update from Bob Orton and concerns over his quality of life moving forward, many were under the belief that the 14-time World Champion had competed in his final match.
At Survivor Series 2023, Orton defied the odds and made his return in the WarGames match to help team Cody Rhodes defeat The Judgment Day. Still competing full-time since his return, Orton detailed how close he came to retirement.
Speaking with Sportskeeda, Orton admitted that he was told that his back injury could be fixed but he would not be able to wrestle anymore:
“I had top neurologists telling me that, ‘You know what, you had a great career, you have a life after wrestling, and you wanna be comfortable. You don’t wanna be in pain the rest of your life. We’re gonna fix your back, but you’re gonna have to stop wrestling’. “The first six months that I was out, I had that in the back of my head, and it was tough. It was mentally very challenging.”
