On the latest edition of AEW Dynamite, Sting shocked everyone when he took to the skies, diving off a ladder onto Sammy Guevara.
In an escalation of their rivalry with Guevara and Chris Jericho, Sting and Darby Allin took on Le Sex Gods in a Tornado Tag Match that left more damage than its namesake.
The four men fought all over the arena before The Icon made his leap of faith, climbing a ladder in the ring and jumping on Guevara, who was lying unconscious on a table on the floor below.
That wasn’t the end of things, as Allin made his own dive, leaping from the top rope to attack Jericho with his skateboard.
The fighting continued until Sting got back in the ring to hit The Painmaker in the head with a baseball bat before a Scorpion Death Drop and Scorpion Deathlock submission sealed the deal with Jericho having no choice but to tap.
While many have praised the bout, especially for the WCW legend’s ability at the age of 64, one fellow WWE Hall of Famer was less than impressed.
Booker T believes the dive could have been “a disaster” for Sting
On his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T questioned Sting’s thought process, saying that while he might have been looking to recreate the “rush” from his heyday, it wasn’t a smart move.
“What the hell was he thinking? This is something that I talk about all the time. You know, older guys wanting to go out there and live that dream and get that pop and have that rush from back in the day of how I felt.
“I don’t know, maybe this is the swansong. You know, I’m gonna go out and I’m gonna go out big and bold. But for me, that wasn’t smart at all. It could have literally been a disaster for Sting.”
Referencing the Buckle Bomb from Seth Rollins that went awry and nearly ended the legend’s career in 2015, Booker said he just doesn’t want to see Sting get hurt.
“The Seth Rollins thing definitely put Sting in a position where doing stuff like that is just not smart at all and I don’t want to see Sting get hurt doing something that these young kids are pulling off these days. That’s just my opinion.”
Unfortunately, the veteran did indeed get hurt, revealing after the show that he had received stitches for a cut lip and almost knocked a tooth out. However, he also said, “It was worth it.”
