JBL has opened up on his friendship with the late great Eddie Guerrero, and on Guerrero’s enduring legacy.
Eddie Guerrero is rightly remembered as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, with a rare combination of both charisma and incredible in-ring fluidity. Following his tragic death in 2005, countless individuals from the wrestling world have voiced their appreciation and admiration for the Latino Heat star, from Rey Mysterio, to Kevin Sullivan, to CM Punk. WWE Hall of Famer JBL is the latest to do so.
Speaking on Something to Wrestle, JBL opened up about how important Eddie was to him, and how much he wishes his friend was still alive:
“What a good guy. People ask me all the time, ‘What do I regret most in life?’ When you make as many mistakes as I do, you probably should regret a lot. But the thing I regret the most is that Eddie Guerrero is not here. I wish Eddie were here now so that he could be on the show with us, so I could sit around and talk to him, like the old guys, and bash the young guys for not knowing what they’re doing.”
JBL and Guerrero feuded back in 2004 for the WWE Championship, which culminated in a Judgement Day title match. The bout was infamously one of the bloodiest in WWE history, with Guerrero accidentally hitting an artery while blading after a JBL chair shot.
JBL went on to explain how influential Guerrero was, not just to him but to the whole WWE locker room:
“Eddie was such a nice person and such a great person. He influenced so many people, not just by what he did in the ring but what he did outside the ring, because of who he was. Our world has really missed out by Eddie not being here.”
JBL has made headlines throughout 2024 due to multiple surprise appearances in different promotions, including MLW, GCW, and TNA. At TNA Bound for Glory, JBL delivered a vicious Clothesline From Hell to Joe Hendry, costing The Prestigious One the World Championship. Recently, JBL shared his thoughts on whether he preferred being a singles star or part of a tag team.
