A WWE champion recalls explaining anime to Vince McMahon and comparing a character to Paul Heyman.
Zelina Vega is one of the WWE stars who uses anime as an inspiration in her gear and look. While many fans recognize the characters she portrays and enjoy seeing her creative side, she had to explain all this to Vince McMahon first to make it happen.
While on Ring the Belle, Zelina Vega was asked whether she had to explain anime to people in WWE. She answered that she only had to explain it to Vince McMahon, who disapproved of her earlier look of having red in the middle of her hair.
“The only person I’ve had to explain it to was Vince [McMahon]. It’s because he was a little bit more like, ‘I don’t want you to change this. I don’t want you to change your hair.’ Like when I had the red in the middle, he was like ‘I don’t know if I like it.’ I was like, ‘But you wouldn’t get it cause it’s like an anime thing.’ And I was trying to explain it to him, and he was just like ‘Hmm, yeah I don’t know if I like it.'”
The Women’s United States Champion went on to say that while Vince McMahon disapproved of her look, he liked it when The Usos did a similar thing.
Zelina Vega Had An Interesting Discussion With Vince McMahon Regarding Her Theme Song
The current Women’s US Champion recalled that when she portrayed Queen Zelina, she took Madara Uchiha’s voice, a Naruto character, to say the phrase “All hail the queen.” However, she had an interesting conversation with Vince to get that approved.
Vega stated that she introduced Crunchyroll to Vince, who initially thought it was sushi. Zelina explained that it was like “Netflix of anime,” that Naruto was like WWE, and Madara was what Paul Heyman was to Roman Reigns. Due to the comparisons, McMahon agreed to use the voice.
