The night after WrestleMania 39, Cody Rhodes targeted revenge on Roman Reigns, but all he ended up with was a beat down from Brock Lesnar.
The Beast demolished Rhodes for reasons still unknown, and his dislike of the American Nightmare has only continued to grow. This led to a match between the pair at Backlash which Rhodes won, stealing the win while trapped in the Kimura Lock by rolling Lesnar into a pin.
The match ended with Lesnar beaten, covered in blood, and hell-bent on destruction.
Naturally, the defeat didn’t sit well with the former UFC star and he’s continued to make Rhodes’ life as difficult as possible, even ‘breaking’ his arm. Despite the injury, Rhodes pushed Lesnar all of the way in a rematch at Night of Champions, but it wasn’t enough to get the win.
This has led many to believe that a third and final match is on the way, it’s just a matter of when. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that the match will take place at SummerSlam in Detroit.
Interestingly, as some fans have suggested, this could clear the way for Rhodes to compete in the men’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match.
“Brock Lesnar, Cody Rhodes 3 is SummerSlam.
SummerSlam, Ford Field, match number 3”
