AEW President Tony Khan has shared his thoughts on WWE’s merger with UFC.
WWE and UFC have officially merged to create a new publicly traded company called TKO Group Holdings. Under the Endeavor banner, both WWE and UFC will continue to operate as separate entities. The announcement, which was initially made on April 3rd, has now become official as of last Tuesday, September 12th.
The news of this merger has sparked curiosity and excitement in the world of sports, combat sports, and pro wrestling. AEW President Tony Khan, speaking to Insider, expressed his fascination with the development, stating:
It will be interesting to see what happens in the world of sports, combat sports, and pro wrestling. I love pro wrestling, it’s an amazing business. I think there are a lot of really exciting things happening with sports media rights.
Currently, WWE is in the process of negotiating its media rights deals for two of its flagship shows, WWE Raw and WWE SmackDown. These deals are set to expire in 2024. On the other hand, AEW is currently affiliated with the Warner Bros. Family, with AEW programming airing on TNT and TBS.
Is CM Punk Going To Sue Tony Khan?
Following CM Punk’s dismissal from AEW following his backstage altercation at All In with Jack Perry, it had been speculated that Punk could be aiming to sue Tony Khan following his termination. However, it has been reported that Punk is not pursuing a lawsuit against Khan and is instead taking some time away from the wrestling business.
