Chad Gable wants to tie up some loose ends with Gunther.
Though best known for his time in tag teams such as American Alpha and Alpha Academy, Chad Gable made an attempt to break out as a singles star in the summer of 2023. His feud with record-setting Intercontinental Champion Gunther was highly praised by fans and critics alike, and in August, Gable even handed the Imperium leader his first loss since joining WWE’s main roster.
However, Gable came up short when the two faced off in the main event of the September 4th edition of Raw, and the Austrian’s dominant title reign continued. Gable spoke backstage after the match, making it clear that he didn’t believe this was the end of his story.
“I Don’t Think I Ever Got Closure” – Chad Gable On Feud With Gunther
Speaking in a new interview with the Battleground Podcast, Gable made it clear that his quest for singles gold in WWE is far from over, and he wants another chance to become Intercontinental Champion.
“For those that didn’t see I went through a period through the late summer and early fall with with Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship. He’s on this insane run right now, a record-setting run with the title. I don’t think I ever got closure with [that feud]. I feel like there was still some loose ends left there, that could still be tied up.
“So first and foremost, if I had it my way I’d like to finish that up. I’d like to finish that story. I’d like to win that championship and really solidify myself as a singles guy, finally. I’ve kind of always had this stigma attached to me that I’m a tag team wrestler, and I think winning my first singles championship is my chance to break free from that for good. So, that would be my goal.”
