Gunther has opened up about the impact of suffering his very first loss since his move to the WWE main roster.

On the August 21st edition of RAW, Gunther faced Chad Gable in a non-title match and suffered a shocking loss to Gable. This marked the first loss for the Imperium leader since his move to the main roster in April 2022.

Prior to his call-up, the man then known as WALTER lost two matches on RAW in a one-off appearance on the November 8th, 2019 episode. He was also part of the losing Team NXT in the Men’s Survivor Series match at the namesake event in 2019.

In an interview with Jeff Synder, the record-breaking Intercontinental Champion looked back on his recent loss and how it’s affecting him as well as his current championship reign.

“I’m definitely taking pride in my title reign. Ever since I came to the main roster, it didn’t take too long until I got my hands on the Intercontinental Championship. Since then, I can leave my own mark and legacy on the title and in the same process, building my own legacy.

I’ve been doing it my way, the way I’ve always expressed myself in the ring, I’m still doing that and that’s something I’m very proud of, obviously. Wins and losses in wrestling are something different than in other sports, but in my situation, it’s very important to win because I plan to stay Intercontinental Champion.”

In recent news, Chad Gable has vowed to win the Intercontinental title from Gunther.
