To the surprise of very few, The Rock caused a bump in the WWE Raw ratings.
With the company kicking off 2024 in the biggest way possible, The Rock made a shock return to WWE and very heavily hinted that he will be confronting Roman Reigns in the near future. As The Great One has such a wide appeal among wrestling and non-wrestling fans, this was reflected strongly in the ratings.
According to Wrestlenomics, 2.154 million people watched the segment with Rock and Jinder Mahal, obtaining an 18-49 rating of 0.79. For reference, the entire show drew an average rating of 1.751 million and obtained an 18-49 rating of 0.60. While the appearance of the Hollywood megastar was inevitably going to be beneficial to the ratings there was also no NFL games to compete with Raw on New Year’s Day.
The segment has also proved to be popular on social media platforms, with more than 3 million people watching the full segment on YouTube and over 13 million views on Instagram.
While the company has yet to total up the combined views across all of their platforms, The Rock’s surprise appearance on SmackDown back in October 2023 was viewed more than 100 million times.
The Rock Says “We’re Just Getting Started”
With the Hollywood star closing his promo by referencing The Head of the Table, multiple further appearances are expected in the lead-up to WrestleMania. Taking to social media to thank the fans for always giving him a positive reception over the years, The Rock ended his social media address by stating that it is only the beginning. At the time of writing, no further appearances from the former World Champion have been announced by the company.
