WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long has expressed his belief that AEW star Jack Perry would have faced immediate termination if he had defied the orders of management in WWE.
Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Wrestling Time Machine show, Long stated that the leadership in WWE would have handled the situation involving Perry and CM Punk better than AEW. Long emphasised that if Perry had been instructed by Vince McMahon not to use real glass, he would have followed those instructions or faced immediate dismissal.
I can’t really speak on AEW, ’cause I don’t watch it. But here’s what I can say about this — Jack Perry, I don’t know the young man, never met him a day in my life — the only thing I can say about this, if he was in the WWE, I think the leadership there is a lot better. If he had been told by Vince McMahon to not use real glass, that wouldn’t have ever happened. And if he’d disobeyed Vince McMahon’s orders, that not to do something, just like you said, as soon as he walked through that curtain, he’d have been fired.
Long commended WWE’s leadership for putting talent in their place and preventing such mistakes. In contrast, Long suggested that AEW’s leadership allowed Perry to make the error due to a lack of strong management.
But I think that if he was in the WWE, the leadership there would have certainly put him in his place and he wouldn’t have never made a mistake like that. If somebody tells you don’t do something, then you don’t do it. So I think that just comes from the leadership in AEW.
Long further explained WWE’s reasoning behind not allowing Perry to use real glass during his stunt. He argued that it would have been a financial and safety risk for Perry and the company. Long highlighted the potential for serious injury and the burdensome cost of medical bills if Perry had disregarded safety guidelines. He criticised Perry’s decision, stating that it demonstrated recklessness and a lack of consideration for his own health.
You become a liability now if something happened to you. They got to send you to the hospital, they got to pay all your hospital bills for some nonsense that you were told not to do. So it just doesn’t make any sense to me to just put your own self in danger.
What Does Teddy Long Think About AEW?
Teddy Long hasn’t given his opinion on what he thinks of AEW. However, he has spoken in the past about not having watched the product and last year Teddy Long appeared to block a number of AEW talent on his X account. However, he revealed that his account was hacked which is why the stars were blocked.
