Potential Spoiler For WrestleMania 39 Main Events, Planned Opponents For Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns celebrates at WrestleMania 38

While WrestleMania 39 is still months away, plans for the spectacular are beginning to be finalised.

The traditional start of ‘the road to WrestleMania’ in the Royal Rumble is only a month away, and excitement is already building for 2023. It has long been rumoured that the main event for WrestleMania 39 will see Dwayne Johnson return to the ring to take on Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. However, there has been no confirmation that Johnson will be appearing at the event.

Roman Reigns’ Plans For WrestleMania

A new report from WrestlingNewsCo has now claimed that The Rock isn’t “locked in” for WrestleMania. The report adds that if the star misses the show Cody Rhodes will instead challenge Roman Reigns. It is noted that WWE want to get The Rock to commit to a match before the Royal Rumble as that’s when WrestleMania plans begin to be finalised. Interestingly, current plans for the event see the WWE and Universal Championships split up once again.

Current WrestleMania 39 plans:

Night 1
WWE Championship
Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre or Cody Rhodes

Night 2
Roman Reigns vs. TBD. If The Rock can’t do the show then the plan is for Cody Rhodes to take the spot.

Cody Rhodes is currently out of action following surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle. While there has been no confirmation as to when Rhodes will be back, it has long been believed that he will be back in action at the Royal Rumble on January 28th, 2023. The American Nightmare has kept a relatively low profile since being written off television, but recently appeared in an interview segment on the December 26th edition of Raw.

The former AEW star said that he was looking to pick up where he left off, before going on to win the WWE Championship.

While The Rock may still not be a lock in for WrestleMania, it appears that John Cena will be at the spectacular. A recent report claimed that WWE are expecting Cena to be working the event.
