Ronda Rousey Appearance Almost Didn’t Happen Due To “Political” Reasons

Ronda Rousey Wishes More Thought Was Put Into This WWE Rivalry

Ronda Rousey almost missed her chance to wrestle at this event in 2023.

A couple of years ago, UFC Hall of Famer Ronda Rousey finished up her time with WWE in 2023. Soon after finishing up with the promotion in August 2023, Rousey was back in the Indies by October of that year.

Teaming up with former MMA star Marina Shafir, the duo wrestled three matches together at Lucha VaVoom, The Wrestling REVOLVER, and Ring of Honor. Addressing their matches, current AEW star Marina Shafir opened up on how their bout at Wrestling REVOLVER on 16th November 2023, almost got canceled due to “political reasons”.

Speaking with Chris Jericho on his Talk Is Jericho podcast, Shafir opened up. Although denying to share the exact details of the situation, she commented:

“I got them (Ronda Rousey & Sami Callihan) connected and they figured out that they’re gonna do a charity show. Charity show happens. It was very chaotic. There was just some political things going on. I’m not going to talk about it but, it was almost not going to happen, and we pulled some strings, made it happen. But then the very next day was when we ended up wrestling Athena and Billie (Starkz) on Ring of Honor.”

Since her last match at Ring Of Honor, Rousey has not wrestled yet. While Shafir is an active part of Jon Moxley’s Death Riders group.

Ronda Rousey Addresses The Mixed Reception To Her Final WWE Match

A few months ago, in an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Ronda Rousey opened up on her final WWE match against Shayna Baszler at SummerSlam. Suffering her first-ever submission loss in WWE, Rousey’s match was met with a mixed reception. Stating she does not care about the feedback, the former women’s champion said:

“I think if we did the match at [GCW] Bloodsport or something, people would have loved it, but I think the crowd, it wasn’t for them at all. It was all MMA easter eggs and all of these moments in MMA history that we’re big geeks for that…

It was a nice little ‘f**k you’ on the way out. ‘You’re gonna sit here and watch this match that we wanted to do from the very beginning.’ I don’t care what you think, go get some f*****g popcorn. But yeah, we loved it.
