Rey Mysterio Set For First Time Gimmick Match During WWE Live Event

Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio has had a fantastic start to 2023. In the first half of the year, he has ticked off wins against the likes of Karrion Kross, Damien Priest and The Usos, with him set to continue that momentum for the second half.

To help him do just that, it has been revealed that Rey Mysterio will be given the honour of involvement in a “first-ever” gimmick match at an upcoming WWE Live Event.

Rey Mysterio Set For First Time Gimmick Match During WWE Live Event

In a recent report from PW Insider, it has been confirmed that a unique match will take place at WWE’s live event, to be held in Charleston, West Virginia.

The event takes place on July 18th: Father’s Day. So what better way to celebrate Father’s Day than the first ever “Father’s Day Street Fight!”

In the match, Rey Mysterio will be taking on his son Dominik Mysterio, in what is assumed to be a regular “anything goes” Street Fight, featuring weapons and wacky spots.

The Mysterios have been embroiled in an on-again-off-again feud since Clash at the Castle in September of 2022, where Dominik drilled his father with a vicious clothesline.

Dominik then joined the heel faction known as “The Judgement Day” alongside members Finn Balor, Rhea Ripley and Damien Priest. Rey Mysterio would enlist the help of superstars such as Edge and Santos Escobar to help even the odds in the feud, ultimately defeating Dominik in a one-on-one match at WrestleMania 39.

The feud, however, is still ongoing. Despite Dominik being exclusive to WWE’s Raw roster, and Rey being exclusive to the SmackDown roster, the two are still meeting in the ring at various house shows. Most recently, Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar defeated Dominik Mysterio and Damien Priest at a Hampton, Virginia WWE Live Show on May 21st.
