Former WWE Superstar Paige had an array of finishing moves throughout her career, but the Paige Turner wasn’t one she enjoyed performing.
‘The Anti-Diva’ changed up her finishing move on a handful of occasions during her WWE career, utilising the RamPaige – a cradle DDT – and the PTO – a Scorpion Crosslock. The Paige Turner, however, wasn’t one of her favourites.
As she discussed during her Turning The Paige panel as part of Starrcast V, the real-life Saraya-Jade Bevis addressed the issues she had with the move, which seemingly stemmed from a Randy Orton comment:
“AJ [Lee] as like ‘Okay, the only thing I don’t want is a submission. Just beat me clean, I don’t want to tap out.’ I’m like, ‘Sounds good’. I hate the Paige Turner, by the way.
The reason why I stopped doing it is because after that match, I came back and Randy [Orton] was like, ‘You beat her with a leg sweep?’ I’m like, ‘I can’t help it’, that kind of move, you need two people and timing. But whatever, I had two other finishers I could pull out.”
‘The Diva of Tomorrow’ used the move to win her first WWE Divas Championship on the Raw following WrestleMania XXX, pinning AJ Lee to lift the championship. To begin her second reign, however, it was her RamPaige cradle DDT that got the job done for ‘The Norfolk Doll’.
Oofficially described as a spinning leg-hooked fireman’s carry slam, the move has also been used by the likes of Jimmy Rave and Matt Sydal, where it was known as the Move That Rocks The World and the Lightning Spiral, respectively.
A former three-time champion in WWE overall, the Norwich native was officially let go from the company on 7 July, ending her decade-plus tenure with the promotion. Her Starrcast panel marked Paige’s first non-WWE appearance in over ten years; she’ll subsequently return to her parent’s WAW company this October.
