New AEW Champions Crowned At Dynamite Spring BreakThru

AEW has new World Trios Champions following a chaotic main event on Wednesday night’s DynamiteSpring BreakThru special in Boston.

The Opps, consisting of Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata, and Powerhouse Hobbs (substituting for Hook), defeated The Death Riders’ Jon Moxley (filling in for PAC), Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta to capture the titles.

The match was originally set to feature Hook alongside Joe and Shibata, but a storyline injury angle shifted plans. At the start of the show, it was announced that The Death Riders had attacked Hook earlier in the day, removing him from the match. In response, Hobbs stepped in as his replacement.

Commentary team Excalibur and Tony Schiavone revealed that Taz, Hook’s father and regular commentator, was absent from the desk as he had accompanied his son to the hospital. The angle may have been a cover for a real health issue, as Hook was seen vomiting during a match on last week’s Dynamite. AEW has not confirmed if the substitution was due to an actual illness or injury.

The match itself was filled with interference. Samoa Joe secured the win by choking out Moxley with the Coquina Clutch, but not before several run-ins complicated the action. Willow Nightingale and Swerve Strickland got involved on behalf of The Opps, while The Young Bucks backed The Death Riders, continuing a storyline of uneasy alliances between the factions.

Following the victory, members of the babyface locker room poured out to the stage to celebrate The Death Riders’ defeat.

Which AEW Star Did Mercedes Mone Call “One Of The Greatest Women’s Wrestlers Of All Time”?

TBS Champion Mercedes Mone branded AEW star and current ROH Women’s Champion Athena, “one of the greatest women’s wrestlers of all time.” Mone spoke about Athena prior to her recent clash with her in the semi-final match of the Owen Hart Foundation tournament on last night’s Dynamite, stating that she’d wanted to face Athena in the ring long before Mone even joined WWE in 2012.

With AEW Forbidden Door now official, an update has been provided on why the announcement was delayed.

In recent news, AEW has added a massive tag match to the upcoming Dynamite Beach Break show.
