MJF has explained why he is barely seen in The Iron Claw.
Following the highly-anticipated biopic on the Von Erich family being released in cinemas in the United States, wrestling fans will understandably have many questions. Along with how accurate the film is compared to real-life events and why not every member of the family is included, fans may be surprised at how little MJF is seen throughout the biopic which is over 2 hours in length.
Playing Lance Von Erich in The Iron Claw, who is not a blood relative of the Von Erich family, the AEW World Champion only makes a brief appearance and has no lines.
Speaking with Comic Book, the World Champion stated that there is a scene that was cut from the theatrical release and that he understands why as the film needs to focus on the 4 brothers:
“There most certainly is [an extended scene]. I don’t know where it’s going to live. There was a scene where me and him were talking, but me and Sean [Durkin, director] both completely understood that listen, I want this film to succeed, and the film needed to be about the brothers. As fun as I had shooting that scene, realistically, it didn’t add to the overarching story and the importance of the story between the brothers and what they were going through in dealing with the pressures that their father put on them. It didn’t fit in the pieces of the puzzle,”
Former WWE star Chavo Guerrero also stars in The Iron Claw as The Shiek and helped to train the Hollywood stars how to be wrestlers. In a separate interview to promote the release of the movie, Chavo Guerrero explained why Chris Von Erich is also not featured in the biopic.
MJF Discusses Upcoming World Championship Defence
The World Champion is closing in on one full calendar year with possession of the Triple B. Despite being involved in Iron Man matches, multi-man matches and even competing twice on the same night, the generational talent has overcome all obstacles in 2023 to remain champion. However, when discussing his upcoming match at Worlds End, MJF admitted that he is not 100%.
In a more recent interview, MJF explained why he is being criticised more by wrestling fans in 2023.
In regards to The Iron Claw, the biopic did not fare well at the Oscar nominations.
