MJF immediately gets an opponent after a recent championship win.
Maxwell Jacob Friedman’s accomplishments are now no longer contained in AEW. At All In, he won the Men’s Casino Gauntlet match that would allow him to challenge for the brand’s World title at any time he wants. Although there is tension regarding his relationship with The Hurt Syndicate, things are starting to look up again for the 29-year-old.
Last month, MJF appeared on Consejo de Lucha Libre’s Informa event, where he challenged Averno to a match for the CMLL Light Heavyweight Championship. On August 1 at Viernes Espectacular, the AEW star defeated the latter to capture the gold.
Following the match, MJF was confronted by another popular star, Zandokan Jr., who approached the ring and urged the AEW star to respect the tradition and fans of lucha libre. The latter added that the championship belongs to CMLL wrestlers, and it would be his mission to take the title back from the Light Heavyweight Champion.
Following this confrontation, a match between MJF and Zandokan Jr. is confirmed for August 15, just two weeks after the AEW star won the CMLL title.
MJF Calls Out Mistico And Zandokan Jr. After CMLL Light Heavyweight Championship Win
In a promo package after winning the CMLL Light Heavyweight Championship, MJF mocked Mistico by wearing then thrashing a lucha mask and stated that, unlike the latter, Maxwell was able to defeat Averno. The champion added that he was the better man as he was American.
Mystico, what is the difference between me and you, besides the fact that I don’t wear this stupid mask? It is the simple fact that I did what you were never able to accomplish. I beat Averno for the CMLL World Championship! Mistico, I have proved time and time again that I am the better man because I am an American man, and an American hero. Now, after my match tonight, there’s another silly little luchador that thinks he wants a piece, wants a taste of this American icon?”
Maxwell Jacob Friedman then insulted Zandokan Jr. by calling him a private, comparing him to the likes of Captain Hook and Pirates of the Caribbean. MJF added that he was going to make his challenger “walk the plank” on August 15.
