Mercedes Mone set the record straight about her AEW debut timeline.

AEW Double or Nothing saw Mercedes Mone make her in-ring debut and capture the TBS Championship from Willow Nightingale. Having made her first on-screen appearance back in March at Big Business, many wondered if the star delayed her in-ring debut due to medical clearance after suffering a broken ankle the previous May.

However, recent reports indicate that Mone was cleared to compete back in December. Speaking at a media scrum following the pay-per-view, Mone confirmed that she’s been cleared since December and explained the thought process behind delaying her debut. She said:

“Me and Tony have been talking for a very long time. People don’t even actually know when I got signed to AEW. The beginning of the year, we talked, signed a deal, made it happen. We were really talking about when was the perfect place and time for me to debut in the ring? We knew March 13th was going to be amazing and the Boston Garden.

When Tony called me and said, ‘I have the perfect place for you to debut. Boston, baby.’ ‘Tony, Tony, you are speaking my language. You are speaking the Mone.’”

“I’m Patient” – Mercedes Mone

Continuing, Mercedes Mone explained that waiting to wrestle until Double or Nothing was Tony Khan’s idea, and one she happily accepted as the five year anniversary of AEW was the perfect time for her first match.

“Then he said, ‘We are celebrating AEW’s five-year anniversary here in Las Vegas for Double or Nothing. Can you wait?’ I said, ‘Bitch, I’ve been waiting for a whole year. Of course, I can wait. I’m patient.’ This is the perfect place. The grandest place that I can make my in-ring debut. As you can see, Mone changes everything.”
