Maven was forced to buy back his Hardcore Championship following a mistake made parking his vehicle.
The Tough Enough winner captured the title on 3 separate occasions and would frequently make defences of the championship at non-televised events. While on a night out showing off the championship to friends and family, the title would be inadvertently held to ransom.
Maven answered some of the most commonly asked WWE questions on his YouTube channel, one of which was if wrestlers kept the championships that they won. The former Hardcore Champion revealed that they don’t keep them forever, but they are allowed to take them home while they reign with the title. It was then that Maven recounted a story about how he left the championship in his car and had to pay a substantial amount of money to make sure he could make it to the next event with the title in his possession:
“I almost got in trouble the first time, I took it [WWE Hardcore Title] out because at that time I was the only Hadrcore Champion, I thought that was pretty cool. So I took it out to a bar that night, I was parked in a spot I probably shouldn’t have been because I thought I was great…and my car got towed. I had a flight the next morning to go out and defend the Hardcore Championship.
Not having that belt on the flight for that show was not an option. I had to wake up the lot owner and I had to pay him $500 to get my car [and the belt] out the lot, and phew I made my flight. My wallet was a letter thinner but I learnt a valuable lesson that night.”
The Hardcore Championship was active in WWE from 1998 to 2002 and had over 200 separate reigns from inaugural champion Mick Foley to the final-ever champion Rob Van Dam. The title was retired when it was unified with the Intercontinental Championship on the August 26th episode of Raw.
