WWE continues to surprise fans and pull swerves in the Endeavor era. The company has opened up its own forbidden doors in recent years, and now sources have provided an update from backstage as Triple H and his team prepare for another major happening this summer.
WWE has been rumored to air a major Premium Live Event on Saturday, September 20 from Gainebridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is the same day as AEW’s All Out pay-per-view from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, setting up the first-ever counter-programming battle between a main roster WWE PLE and AEW PPV.
The final Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena match has been discussed for the September PLE, with a potential heavy-hitting stipulation. There was also talk of WWE’s Creative Writing Team booking one or two more “major matches” to stack the card along with Lesnar vs. Cena.
Sources in the broadcast industry revealed this week that the WWE PLE planned for September 20 may end up being an extra, and unique, new event that will air on ESPN. The idea is that the Premium Live Event, described as extra and unique, will serve as a preview of the sort of programming WWE will deliver when the new partnership with the sports network begins in April 2026.
WWE plans to announce the new PLE and full broadcast details some time this week, adds PWInsider. There’s now updated talk that WWE will be bringing back a familiar name from the original ECW for the September PLE.
WWE Reportedly Reviving Wrestlepalooza Name
Paul Heyman booked four Wrestlepalooza events in the original ECW. The inaugural event was taped for ECW Hardcore TV episodes in August 1995, as was the June 1997 edition, both from the ECW Arena in Philadelphia.
Wrestlepalooza 1998 aired live on pay-per-view that May from the Cobb County Civic Center in Marietta, GA. The fourth and final Wrestlepalooza event took place in April 2000 at the Family Arena from St. Charles, MO, taped for ECW on TNN and Hardcore TV.
WWE is now bringing the Wrestlepalooza name back for the main roster PLE planned to take place in Indianapolis on September 20, according to PWInsider. The rumors have been confirmed via internal sources, and the official announcement is planned for this week some time.
F1rst Wrestling in Minnesota has used the Wrestlepalooza name for a few years now, and they hold a trademark. It will be interesting to see how this plays out as the matter is already public on social media.
