Jon Moxley Was Pivotal In Ensuring This Top Star Joined AEW

Had Jon Moxley not suggested it, AEW may not have signed one of its biggest acquisitions.

Shocking the wrestling world back at Double or Nothing 2019, Moxley made his way through the crowd and attacked Kenny Omega to signal his arrival in All Elite Wrestling. From there, Moxley has been continually presented as one of the top stars in the company and has won the World Championship on numerous occasions. While Mox has felt revitalised by becoming a character more true to himself compared to his time as Dean Ambrose in WWE, he also was a key factor in the signing of another former World Champion.

Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Christian Cage discussed his surprise return at the 2021 Royal Rumble and how he was not signed to contract after the match. Cage stated that there were talks but they didn’t go very far and that a phone call from Moxley changed everything:

“I think we were back and forth a little bit and we never got as far as numbers or anything like that. I think it was more like scheduling stuff like what I was willing to do. I think we were trying to get some traction there. A friend of mine, Jon Moxley, called me and we were talking and when he found out that I wasn’t signed he was blown away by that.

He said you should have a conversation with Tony Khan. I was like, I don’t know. And he said, ‘Well, you’re actually an idiot if you don’t, you hold all the cards here.’ He said ‘you have the ability to pick where you refinish your career. You should at least have a conversation don’t you think?’ I said ‘if Tony wants to talk to me then I would love to have a conversation with him.’”

Continuing, Cage revealed that he received a text from Tony Khan while Dynamite was on the air to start the talks and how everything came together:

“It was that day, it was a Wednesday, they were doing TV that day. When their show was on I got a text from Tony saying ‘Hey, how are you?’ I said ‘I’m great, how are you?’ He said ‘should we talk?’ I said ‘I think we should.’ So he called me the next day and we talked on the phone for almost 3 hours. Halfway through that call I knew that AEW was the place for me. So that’s basically how it all came to fruition was through that one phone call and then we talked one other time later in the week and that was it.”

Cage made his debut at the 2021 Revolution pay-per-view. Playing the detestable heel where no insults are off-limits, many have praised Cage for doing some of the best work of his career at this stage.

Also in the interview, Christian Cage recalled the time when a rockstar told him “Go f*ck yourself.”

Jon Moxley Handled Injury In Unique Manner

Along with a new look and new name, Moxley’s matches in AEW are much more violent than they were in WWE and often sees the current IWGP World Champion battered and bloodied when all is said and done. When discussing a particularly gruesome injury, Jon Moxley had a unique way of treating it.

In a new interview, one AEW star has hailed Jon Moxley as one of the best in the world.
