John Cena knows the sun is setting on his WWE career.
It’s been over two decades since John Cena made his WWE debut, and at the age of 47, the star knows he has few matches ahead of him. Cena has been candid about wanting to retire from in-ring action before the age of 50, but that hasn’t stopped him from staying in peak physical shape.
Speaking in a new interview with People, the star opened up about his changing fitness goals, revealing that even if he doesn’t continue wrestling, he wants to remain active well into his twilight years.
“At 47 now, my goal is to be physically active until I can’t. I put a number in my head of like, I’d like to be physically active into my late 80s or 90s. To do a parallel squat in my late 80s.”
According to Cena, he’s now much more focused on long-term goals than he was in his younger days.
“My training used to be based on every single day, be the strongest you can for that day. Now I have my eyes set 40 years down the road.”
“WWE Has Been A Great Chapter In My Life” – John Cena
Continuing, Cena made it clear that despite having little time left in his WWE career, fitness will always remain a passion.
“I know my WWE journey is coming to an end, but fitness was a part of my life long before the WWE journey started. Fitness will be a part of my life, hopefully as long as my heart’s beating. So the WWE has been a great chapter in my life — it’s year 23 for me — and the sun’s setting on that chapter in the book, but fitness will never not be a part of my life.”
At WWE Money In The Bank 2024, John Cena officially announced his retirement tour will take place in 2025.
John Cena has successfully made the transition to Hollywood and is currently in the process of filming the second season of Peacemaker. Earlier this year, Cena launched an exclusive content site to promote his film Ricky Stanicky.
Cena is also the host of the upcoming Shark Week beginning on July 7th.
