WrestleMania 39 is set to be a star studded event. Not only are Cody Rhodes and Charlotte Flair expected back in action by the time the show takes place in Los Angeles, there are also rumors flying that Steve Austin and Dwayne Johnson could be involved.
Another man in the rumor mill is John Cena, whose WWE appearances have lessened in recent years but hasn’t ruled out an in-ring return. In fact, though it looked like 2022 might be the first year he didn’t step inside the squared circle, he’s scheduled to team with Kevin Owens to take on Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn on the December 30th episode of WWE SmackDown.
Dave Meltzer Says John Cena Is “Probable,” Will Appear At WrestleMania 39 If Available
Speaking on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio about the possibility of Dwayne Johnson and John Cena appearing at WrestleMania 39, Dave Meltzer said that while neither man is guaranteed to compete at the event, John Cena’s status for the show is “probable.” Meltzer sounded less confident that The Rock would appear.
“Am I saying he’s not going to do it? No, I’m not saying that at all. And if he’s doing it, wow, you have him, Austin, and Cena all on the same show – or the same weekend because they’ll split them up, obviously. Like, Cena’s not 100% either, by the way, but he’s got a movie in February and March, so he’s not going to be able to do a lot of TVs.
“I don’t know…he will do the show if he’s available, but it’s the same thing. He may have other things going on. I was told… I guess the best way to put it is Cena is a ‘probable’, and Dwayne is a ‘possible’ maybe a probable, I don’t know, but neither is a sure thing.”
Meltzer previously reported that John Cena is scheduled to film a movie with Zac Efron in Australia in February and March of 2023, which doesn’t rule out an appearance at WrestleMania, but would make it difficult to build to a match on television ahead of the event.
