While John Cena hasn’t wrestled at on WWE television for well over a year, the 16-time World Champion is yet to fully close the door on his in-ring career. So naturally with WrestleMania 39 less than five months away, fans are wondering whether the star could return at the event.
There are already rumours that Steve Austin and Dwayne Johnson could be appearing on the show, and adding Cena to that marquee would surely make it the biggest ever.
John Cena Filming In Australia In Early 2023
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Dave Meltzer notes that John Cena is scheduled to be in Australia in February and March of 2023. The wrestler-turned-Hollywood star is due to film a new comedy titled “Ricky Stanicky” alongside Zac Efron.
While WrestleMania 39 isn’t until April 1st and 2nd, Cena’s filming schedule would presumably make training for a match incredibly difficult. That being said an appearance is seemingly not out of the question.
There have previously been hints that Cena could be back in action to face Austin Theory. The pair came face-to-face during Cena’s last on-screen appearance back in June where he celebrated the 20trh anniversary of his WWE debut. However, speculation regarding “one more match” kicked into a new gear in November. Fresh off the back of his impressive display at Crown Jewel, Logan Paul called out Cena for a match at WrestleMania.
The YouTube star added that a match between the pair would “break the internet” before revealing that he had already pitched the idea to Triple H.
“After the Crown Jewel event, John Cena posted about me on his Instagram. And then I saw an article saying he’s looking for an opponent at WrestleMania,” Paul explained. “I favorited it, responded with “the eyes”. I mean, truthfully, I think me vs. John Cena would break the internet. I texted Triple H right away, ‘do you want to break the internet again?’ That’s a dream matchup, dude: at WrestleMania, in LA, on my birthday. Triple H, throw me a bone, give me a birthday present, let me take out John Cena. And that’d be crazy.”
“I think that’s the model I’m going to pitch to WWE, to give you an insight into what our meetings look like” he added. “This week, we’re meeting with them, I’m just going to be like, ‘Hey, this works for me. Put me up against the best y’all have, I’m gonna f****** deliver. You know that for a fact. Not only to put on an amazing match, but I’m going to put asses in seats and eyeballs glued to the television.”
Logan Paul is currently recovering from a torn MCL which he sustained during his match with the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.
