Gable Steveson‘s future with WWE NXT hangs in the balance after his recent withdrawal from the UWW Senior World Championships and removal from the internal NXT roster.
Despite these developments, Steveson made appearances at two NXT house shows over the weekend. Steveson, an Olympic Gold Medallist, made his in-ring debut earlier this summer with his victory over Baron Corbin at the WWE NXT Great American Bash event in Texas.
However, the wrestler’s plans took a sudden turn when it was announced that he would no longer be competing in the UWW Senior World Championship tournament in Belgrade, Serbia. Instead, heavyweight wrestler Mason Parris was selected to replace Steveson. It is worth mentioning that Steveson must receive approval from WWE to participate in amateur wrestling tournaments.
Adding to the uncertainty surrounding Gable Steveson’s future is the recent absence of Vince McMahon, the key decision-maker in WWE. McMahon was on hiatus as he recovered from spinal surgery.
What Did Dave Meltzer Say About Gable Steveson’s Future With WWE?
Commenting on the situation, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio described Gable Steveson’s current predicament as unusual. With McMahon’s prior absence and recovery, the future remains unclear for the promising young talent.
Steveson’s fate now lies in the hands of McMahon, fans and industry insiders can only speculate about what lies ahead for the talented wrestler. Meltzer said:
I know a week ago, they had no plans for him. A lot depends on….his situation will depend on Vince [McMahon]. Until Vince comes back, I don’t know if we’re gonna know a lot that’s going to happen with him because his situation is going to be a Vince decision, and if Vince isn’t back, then Triple H is in charge and everything like that, but it’s the big picture. He’s got an uphill climb right now.
