Ahead of his clash with Edge at Extreme Rules, Finn Balor has admitted that he had given up on ever facing the WWE Hall of Famer.
On the June 6th episode of Monday Night Raw Finn Balor usurped Edge as the head of Judgment Day, leading a vicious beatdown of the former World Champion.
Since then, the two men have been on a collision course as Edge fights back against the faction he created. The rivalry is set to reach it’s zenith at Extreme Rules when they meet in an “I Quit” Match.
Speaking in a new interview with Superstar Crossover ahead of the show Balor admitted that he gave up on ever thinking he would face the WWE legend. Edge originally retired in 2011, before eventually return to the ring at the 2020 Royal Rumble.
“Obviously, from a personal standpoint, I’d given up the idea of ever sharing a ring with Edge a long time ago, when he retired 11 years ago. You kind of lose the spark of hope that was reignited when he returned at Royal Rumble a couple of years ago. Even then, that was something that — I wasn’t fully convinced that we were ever going to get an opportunity to stand in the ring with Edge.
But, the match is here, it’s advertised. So it’s definitely gonna happen. Nothing’s really gonna change unless there’s some cataclysmic global event. I’m excited. I’m focused. I’m ready and I can guarantee you I will not say ‘I quit.'”
Looking to the future, Balor listed three more former World Champions he would love to face again.
“I’d love to revisit a couple of matches that I’ve had already. AJ Styles and I have only wrestled once in a singles match and that’s something that I would love to revisit. Brock Lesnar is another one that I’ve only wrestled once, and I would love to revisit as well. The third one would be Roman Reigns, who I feel, I’ve had quite a lot of interactions with, there’s certainly some unfinished business there.
That’s someone who, you know, has just far exceeded anyone’s expectations in the ring and outside of the ring over the last couple of years and is a consummate professional. Someone that I feel has the respect of the locker room but obviously, he has the attention of the locker room, too, you know? Everyone wants to be in there with him. So that’s definitely top of the list,”
It was recently reported that WWE have “significant” plans for Finn Balor once his grudge match with Edge is done and dusted.
