Ex-AEW Star Calls For Jon Moxley’s World Title Reign To End: “They Need A Fresh Start”

Ex-AEW Star Calls For Jon Moxley's World Title Reign To End:

A former AEW star has spoken out on the Jon Moxley World Championship reign and how they think it is time for someone new to hold the gold in the promotion.

Moxley’s current title reign has been met with heavy criticism over the past few months. Although the start of the reign was impactful with Moxley attacking Bryan Danielson and writing The American Dragon off TV, fans have found that the storyline has gotten stale quickly. Additionally, Moxley retaining the title in the main event of shows has left many feeling disappointed with the closing angle, regardless of the quality of the show.

Although there have been many comments online to call an audible and crown a new champion, All Elite Wrestling looks to continue the reign for the foreseeable future as Moxley is still the World Champion at the time of writing.

Speaking about the reign on his Extreme Life podcast, which was recorded before Dynasty, Matt Hardy stated that it was time for a fresh start at the top of the division:

“I think AEW needs a new champion. I think they need to have a fresh start in going in a new direction.”

Hardy also added that he would have no issue with Swerve Strickland becoming the new champion and that the Death Riders storyline should come to an end:

“So, yeah, I would be okay with Swerve winning the title. I just think they need to make a decision, and I think they need someone to win the title soon and have something in mind for what sort of story they want to tell around whoever it is, and have something to run with for a few months.”

“I just feel like the Death Riders thing has almost run its course,”

Tony Khan Responds To Criticism Of Jon Moxley Match

At Dynasty, Jon Moxley retained the World Title over Swerve Strickland thanks to interference from The Young Bucks, who made their return to the company for the first time in nearly 6 months. Much like the main event of Dynasty, fans took to social media to heavily criticise the creative. Aware of the comments, Tony Khan responded to the backlash.

In other news, Tony Khan is “very interested” in hosting a future AEW show at a historic venue.
