Edge will celebrate his 25th anniversary in spectacular style on SmackDown.
On August 18th, WWE and Edge will return to Toronto, Canada for what is being billed as a 25th-anniversary celebration for the WWE Hall of Famer. However, the star also decided to make a special appearance in Calgary on August 11th.
The legend came to the ring and said it had been a long time since he went to Calgary, so decided to pay fans a visit. He explained that it isn’t enough to just show up next week, he wants a match.
Edge pointed out that he’d never had a match against Sheamus, so that’s who he’d like to face. He went on to break down the bond that exists between the two men and recalled how Sheamus had moved in with him to train before he made his sensational comeback at the 2020 Royal Rumble. Edge said that it was the Celtic Warrior who lit a fire under him to show he was ready to wrestle again.
Sheamus came to the ring and showed footage of Edge appearing on his YouTube show, and Edge showed a photo of Sheamus perched on his young daughter’s bike.
The Irish star then gave his side of their friendship recalling speaking with Edge back in 2004 after everyone else in WWE had shunned him. During this period he was questioning whether he should give up wrestling, but it was the advice from the veteran that made him keep going. Sheamus eventually agreed to the match.
Is Edge Going To Retire?
While he hasn’t really opened up about specifics, the Rated R Superstar has spoken of retirement more and more in recent months. The star has repeatedly stated that he’s aware that he doesn’t have long left in the ring, and his second run since coming out of retirement has been an incredible bonus.
Although he’s been careful not to give a timeframe, Edge has previously said he wants to retire in Canada, sparking speculation that the match on August 18th might be his last.
Update – 24 hours before his match on SmackDown, the Hall of Famer has revealed when his contract is set to run out.
