Dominik Mysterio will put his North American Title on the line at NXT No Mercy.
On the September 5th episode of NXT, Mustafa Ali took on Dragon Lee in a North American Championship number one contender match. To add some extra spice, current champion Dominik Mysterio appeared as the special guest referee.
Unsurprisingly, the match ended in controversy, with Lee complaining about a slow count following a Liger Bomb. However, it was a decision that would immediately come back to haunt him.
Ali took advantage of the uncertainty and rolled up Lee, with Mysterio delivering a fast three-count.
Although he was on the end of the decision, Ali was less than impressed with how the scene played out and flattened Mysterio with a right hand after the bell.
At present, three matches have been confirmed for No Mercy, with the card headlined by the NXT Title clash between champion Carmelo Hayes and Ilja Dragunov or Wes Lee. Elsewhere, Noam Dar will defend the Heritage Cup against the winner of the Global Heritage Invitational Tournament.
When Did Dominik Mysterio Win The North American Title?
Dominik Mysterio won the North American Title on July 18th, getting the better of Wes Lee. Since then he’s defended the gold against Butch, Sami Zayn, and Dragon Lee, as well as emerging as the winner in a Triple Threat Match featuring Wes Lee and Mustafa Ali at the Great American Bash.
Set to defend the title against Dragon Lee, Mysterio is not intimidated by his opponent, describing him as nothing more than a cheap copy of his father.
