Dominik Mysterio Wins NXT Gold

Dominik Mysterio

Dominik Mysterio is a champion once again.

On July 11th Dominik Mysterio laid down a challenge to NXT North American Champion Wes Lee for a match the following week. Fast forward seven days and Mysterio toppled Lee with the help of the Judgment Day, claiming his first-ever singles championship in the process.

Mysterio won the gold after a catalog of interference saw Finn Balor distract the referee and Damian Priest fail to hit Lee with his Money In The Bank briefcase, however, Rhea Ripley nailed the NXT star with her Women’s World Championship belt. With Lee laid out, “Dirty Dom” crawled over to his rival and scored the pin.

Mysterio and Judgment Day celebrated as if Mysterio had won the World Championship in the main event of WrestleMania.

Booker T Claims Dominik Mysterio Debuting In NXT Would Have Been A Mistake

While Dominik Mysterio has found success in NXT as a main roster star and member of Judgment Day, Booker T believes his story would have been very different if he began his career with the brand.

Unusually in WWE, Mysterio began his career on the main roster and wrestled his first match against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam in 2020. The star has only began appeared in NXT in recent weeks as a number of main roster stars have made cameos with the brand. Reflecting on Mysterio’s rise, NXT announcer Booker T said that original plans for Mysterio to debut in NXT would have been a mistake.

Still reigning with the North American Title, Dom’s father and United States Champion Rey Mysterio has pitched a title vs. title match against his son.
