Dominik Mysterio Comments On “Unfortunate” WWE Releases

Mustafa Ali & Dominik Mysterio

Dominik Mysterio doesn’t know who he’ll be facing at No Mercy.

On September 21st, WWE began its latest round of talent cuts. Even before the company’s merger with UFC was confirmed Nick Khan had announced the company would be looking to make savings of at least $50 million.

Shortly after the completion of the merger, the cuts began with over 100 office employees losing their jobs. Less than a week later, numerous talents from the main roster and NXT were released.

Although expected, the releases caused a great deal of controversy as they began just hours after WWE announced a huge new TV deal worth around $1.4 billion.

One of the more surprising releases was that of Mustafa Ali. In recent weeks the star reinvented himself in NXT and was scheduled to face Dominik Mysterio for the North American Title at No Mercy on September 30th.

Appearing on the In The Kliq podcast, Mysterio was asked about the release of Ali and what it means for No Mercy.

“Yeah, it’s a very unfortunate situation that very talented people have to go through situations like this. At the end of the day, it’s out of our control. We just do whatever we can to put our best foot forward. But as far as No Mercy goes, I’m just gonna have to wait and see who my opponent will be.”

Dominik Mysterio To Make Title Defence On Raw

While his opponent at No Mercy might be a mystery for the time being, Mysterio will be putting his title on the line on Raw. On the show, Dragon Lee will make his main roster debut after taunting Mysterio from the crowd on September 18th.
