Dakota Kai made her first WWE appearance in months at SummerSlam, but she almost didn’t make it.
After suffering a serious knee injury, Dakota Kai disappeared from television, but in her absence, Damage CTRL has continued to gain momentum. Iyo Sky won the women’s Money In The Bank match before cashing-in and winning the Women’s Title at SummerSlam.
With Bayley and Sky celebrating in the ring, they were joined by Kai who was making a surprise appearance.
During a recent stream on Twitch, Dakota Kai explained that she almost missed the show altogether, and only got the call to get to Detroit in the hours before the show.
“It’s my sleep in day,” she said. “I’m gonna chill, not even gonna set my alarm. My phone was on ‘Do Not Disturb’…I wake up, my phone is blowing up. My anxiety was just through the roof, I saw all of these missed calls, all these texts…and [Bayley’s] like ‘We need you here!’”
To top things off, the one flight that would get her to the stadium in time was delayed, and she faced a mad rush to get to the show.
“Whatever match was after Shayna and Ronda, we landed,” Kai estimated on when she landed. “And thank goodness, they sent car service to come and get me and then they also had a makeup lady in the car…yes, lucky [SKY winning the title] was semi-main because I definitely wouldn’t have made it, I don’t think.”
When Did Dakota Kai Get Injured
Dakota Kai suffered a torn ACL during the May 12th episode of SmackDown. The injury came during a tag team match where she and Bayley challenged for the Women’s Tag Team Titles held by Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. Incredibly, Morgan was also injured during the same match and later forced to give up the Tag Team Titles.
Although Morgan has since returned to action, she recently got injured again.
