There are concerns for an AEW star following the events that took place on Dynamite.
Taking part in a routine match against Komander on January 31st, Wardlow appeared to have injured his knee. Most notably, the former TNT Champion struggled to deliver his devastating powerbomb finisher to Komander in the closing moments of the match and was seen in pain after the bell.
Taking to social media after the match, Wardlow gave a positive update and informed the fans that there was nothing to worry about:
A normal man’s knee would be ruined. I’m no normal man. I’m still coming for the heavyweight title. And there’s nothing and no one that can stop me. Knee is just fine
Although the AEW star has revealed that he will continue, a new report suggests otherwise. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer have both been informed that he is hurt but it could have been a lot worse. The injury is suspected to be a torn meniscus and he is undergoing further assessments:
Bryan Alvarez: “Wardlow says he is fine. I have been told that it’s not fine.”
Dave Meltzer: “I was told that he was hurt.”
Alvarez: “What I was told was he’s getting checked out tomorrow. They think it’s possibly a torn Meniscus, but that he dodged a bullet, it wasn’t much worse and he’ll probably be alright. But he definitely is not ‘fine’. Something went wrong and he is being looked at tomorrow.”
Meltzer: “After the match, you could see it in his face, he was not celebrating the win. It was the reaction of a guy who [is hurt].”
Wardlow Is The Latest AEW Star To Suffer Injury Scare
Much like WWE, AEW is also in the middle of a major injury crisis. Along with the former TNT Champion’s future being unknown, top stars such as MJF, Adam Cole and Jamie Hayter are all sidelined until further notice.
In regards to MJF, the former World Champion could be absent for up to a year.
