Cody Rhodes has declared his reluctance for answering media questions about AEW for fear that they will do him more harm than good.
‘The American Nightmare’ was instrumental in the creation and early success of AEW, serving as Executive Vice President, but departed the company in February 2022 in favour of a return to WWE.
Rhodes shocked the wrestling world when he was revealed as Vince McMahon’s hand-picked mystery opponent for Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins at WrestleMania 38. Rhodes recently detailed the meeting he had with Vince McMahon prior to his stunning return.
The former AEW TNT Champion is a regular face for WWE with global promotion work, but admitted in an interview with Fightful that he may soon decline to answer questions about his previous company as they could cause him avoidable issues:
“We just did that media scrum and the first question was about something that was not happening here. I think I’m going to…not decline, you don’t want to decline or no comment, but I think I’m going to politely tell folks that these questions get me more slack than they do help.
I like to answer, but, no heat with WrestlePurists, but they just run these quotes. Picture of you, here’s the quote. The truth is, yeah, you said it, but you said it in the context of a larger story. I might just say, ‘Hey, I have given my answer about that time, and it really was a wonderful season of my life, ask another question.’ That might be the way to go.”
Cody Rhodes Documentary Excluded AEW Footage
Cody Rhodes was recently the subject of the Peacock documentary American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodes but despite several AEW talents being spoken to for the well-received show, no footage of Rhodes in AEW was shown.
Rhodes did, however, reveal recently that he and AEW Superstar tag-team The Young Bucks were ‘bonded for life‘.
