Bryan Danielson has addressed his contract status in AEW.
The American Dragon is preparing for one of the biggest matches of his career as he will challenge Swerve Strickland for the World Championship in the main event of All In, which will take place inside Wembley Stadium in London. While this will be one of the biggest matches of Danielson’s career, it will also be one of his last as the AEW star will be bringing his full-time in-ring career to an end in 2024.
On the July 24th episode of Dynamite, Danielson appeared in an interview segment with Renee Paquette that was edited as the show was short on time due to the Blood and Guts match taking up more than half of the show. The extended interview has since been uploaded to the promotion’s YouTube Channel and has contained an extra detail regarding Danielson’s contract.
In the interview, Danielson confirmed that his wrestling contract expires on August 1st:
“Yeah, yeah. That’s true. August 1st, actually. Next Thursday. My wrestling contract is up. Which also happens to be my son’s fourth birthday.”
What’s Next For Bryan Danielson?
Danielson was later asked what the future holds when his contract does expire. The American Dragon responded that he would not try to replicate MJF’s previous actions of starting a bidding war and that All In is currently his main focus.
“So I’m not saying this. Tony talked about this in an interview, so I feel comfortable talking about it. I’m not MJF-ing this. I’m not trying to use my contract to be like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna get all the money. Somebody give me all the money.’ Yeah, my contract is up August 1st.
When I signed this contract, me and Brie, we talked about how this would be the last wrestling contract I was gonna sign. So yeah, part of me is wondering what life is like after this. Part of me is excited about that. But right now, even though Wembley is after this, I still have to focus on that. That’s gotta be kind of my focus. So yeah, it’s a wild time.”
In a recent interview, Tony Khan gave his own Bryan Danielson update.
