AEW’s Colten and Austin Gunn explained why they identify with Dominik Mysterio. over their “deadbeat dads.”
Dominik Mysterio has a famously strained on-screen relationship with his father Rey Mysterio, and that’s something former AEW Tag Team Champions The Gunns say they can relate to wholeheartedly. Speaking in an interview with ComicBook.com, Austin and Colten Gunn were asked whether they believed their father Billy Gunn was a worse dad than Mysterio. Austin was first to answer, saying he believed it was a tie between the two WWE Hall of Famers.
“This is why we connect with Dom so much and get along so much with Dom. Both of our dads are deadbeat dads. I think they’re tied.”

However, Colten chimed in with a different opinion, explaining why Billy Gunn is a worse father as he adopted The Acclaimed and won titles with them, while Rey Mysterio hasn’t taken on a whole new family.
“I honestly think maybe ours because Rey didn’t adopt a new kid and start running around with him .Whereas our dad just adopted two new kids and won titles with them and is scissoring on national TV and making all this merch. I don’t see Rey doing that. He’s still upset that his kid is not with him. Our dad, I don’t even think he remembers our names. So I’m going with Billy Gunn.”
Having that pointed out, Austin agreed with his brother.
On the November 13th episode of Raw, Dominik Mysterio teamed with JD McDonagh to take on the team of Sami Zayn and Seth Rollins. The match ended up being declared a no contest after interference from Damian Priest and Finn Balor.
In a new interview in December 2023, a WWE Hall of Famer compared Dominik Mysterio to The Rock.
