One AEW duo isn’t shy about being in talks with WWE.
Back in June, it was reported that Penta El Zero Miedo was expected to not re-sign with All Elite Wrestling despite the fact that Tony Khan was confident that he would be able to lock in the former Tag Team Champion to a new deal. The following month, it was reported that Rey Fenix’s contract was also coming to an end and looked set to join his brother in exploring free agency.
Ibou of WrestlePurists reported on August 5th that the stars will not be renewing their contracts when they expire later in the year and look set to be the latest stars to join the rival promotion when their current deals expire, with some believing that it is a “formality.” With All In just a few weeks away, Lucha Bros were pencilled in to challenge for the Trios Championship at Wembley Stadium but plans have since changed. The report has also been corroborated by Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline.
Now, Fightful Select sheds more light on the situation, reporting that All Elite Wrestling wanted to re-sign the brothers, but Penta and Fenix delayed the process. In recent weeks, it became clear that they did not intend to re-sign.
Penta El Zero Miedo And Rey Fenix Not Shy About WWE Discussions Despite Being Under AEW Contract
Continuing, the report from Fightful Select confirmed previous reports that WWE have had discussions about bringing the brothers in. Sources who spoke with Fightful indicated that the stars likely wanted to be signed as a package deal and that they didn’t want to work in NXT. One source said it wouldn’t be surprising to see Fenix and Penta in Orlando soon to prepare for the change.
In a surprising note, Fightful Select also reports that numerous sources close to The Lucha Brothers claim they haven’t been shy about claiming they’ve already had talks with the sports entertainment giant despite still being under contract to All Elite Wrestling. In fact, the brothers have spoken about a preliminary offer already being on the table. WWE sources did not comment on this rumor when Fightful reached out to them.
Back in 2022, AEW sent a warning to WWE in regards to contract tampering after reports emerged that WWE had been in contact with multiple All Elite Wrestling roster members.
In a further update, an AEW star has been pulled from an independent show amid departure rumours.
