AEW Star Discloses Unfortunate In-Ring Retirement Timeline

AEW MVP

This extremely popular AEW star has opened up on his in-ring retirement plans.

A part of the pro wrestling industry for nearly two decades, former United States Champion and current AEW star Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP) has shared an unfortunate update on his in-ring status. Last year, after parting ways with WWE, MVP joined hands with All Elite Wrestling and soon brought with him Shelton Benjamin and Bobby Lashley to form the Hurt Syndicate.

Lashley and Benjamin are currently the reigning World Tag Team Champions while MVP actively manages them alongside their latest stable member, MJF. Recently, during his appearance on the Marking Out podcast with Dwayne Swayze, the 51-year-old revealed his retirement plans. Hoping to hang up his boots within the next two years, Porter wants to conclude his career with a retirement tour:

At this stage of the game for me, like, I don’t have to do it. I just still enjoy doing it. When I get to the point that I can’t do it effectively or if I’m taking baseball slide bumps, then it’s time to go. I plan on ending this run here pretty soon anyway. I want to have my last match.

I want to have the retirement tour, let me go around, ‘Hey, this is the last time MVP will be wrestling in your city. I’d like to think I got maybe another 10 as a manager, maybe 15 depending on my age and health. As far as in the ring, I got like maybe a year or two left max, man.” [H/T: Fightful]

Porter’s last match in the Jacksonville-based promotion was on the January 15th episode of Dynamite. While not much active in the squared circle in the Jacksonville-based company, MVP has maintained an extremely active in-ring career outside the promotion in the indies, with his last match being a win over Al Snow on May 10, 2025.

AEW Star MVP Has “Zero Respect” For WWE’s Triple H

A few weeks ago, during an interview with BetIdeas.com, MVP revealed why he does not have any respect for Triple H.

Let’s just say this, Bobby Lashley was a two-time WWE Champion, and after he took over, Bobby Lashley was reduced to the mid-card. Bobby Lashley is a bankable, marketable guy. And two time WWE Champion just got reduced to mid card, whatever!

What I said, specifically in response to the person on my Instagram page, was that you see it. It’s my opinion of how he chooses to book certain talents. Some people say all the time that, ‘Oh MVP’s just griping, MVP’s just crying.’ Okay, well just watch the program. Who were the people in the top spots under his leadership? Who were given the opportunities?”

“And I’m not talking about NXT. I’m talking about the main show. I have my opinions, based on my personal experiences. And at some point on my podcast and my YouTube show, I’ll talk about it and I’ll go in depth about what my issues are with that man.”

“And I’ll be honest with you, my issues with him have nothing to do with race. My issues have to do with him as a person and our personal interactions and things that he said and did that caused me to have zero respect for him. But I’ll get into that on my show. Marking Out with MVP and Dwayne Swaezey.”
