AEW Original Confirms Absence From Upcoming PPV: “Not My Decision”

AEW Accused Of Mistreatment By Former Partner Of BJ Whitmer

An AEW original set to miss an upcoming PPV.

Signed with All Elite Wrestling in 2019, WCW veteran Tony Schiavone became an integral part of the promotion’s broadcasting team. A constant on the Dynamite and Collision weekly shows, Schiavone also regularly works the PPVs, providing play-by-play commentary.

However, despite his consistent appearances, he is now set to miss out on an upcoming much-anticipated PPV. Schiavone announced on his “What Happened When” podcast that he’ll be absent from AEW x NJPW Wrestle Dynasty on January 5th, 2025.

Of course, we’re sending some people to Japan. I’m not going to go there, I’m not going to Japan. Although I wouldn’t mind because I went to Japan back in 1991 for the big show in the [Tokyo] Dome, and that was a great trip. I had a great time in Japan when I went there, I loved it. It’s not my decision. I’m either booked, or I’m not, and I’m not booked to go there. It’s a little bit easier for AEW to afford a ticket for me to Dayton, Ohio, than it is to going to Tokyo, Japan. It’s a little bit different on the money scale.”

While missing the PPV in Japan, he later confirmed his presence for the future Grand Slam show in Australia and the Forbidden Door PPV in London.

Injured Adam Copeland Returns At AEW Worlds Collide

In the main event of the Worlds Collide PPV, Jon Moxley defeated Orange Cassidy, Adam Page, and Jay White to retain his World Championship. However, toward the closing stages of the show, fans witnessed Moxley’s Death Riders ambush and inflict damage on White.

However, the reign of terror only continued for a short period before Adam Copeland made his triumphant return. Absent for nearly seven months, the former TNT Champion Adam Copeland returned to an erupting crowd.

Attacking and fending off Moxley from the ring, he is now booked to face Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, and Claudio Castagnoli alongside FTR on Fight for the Fallen.
