It was AEW Dynamite featuring words from Jon Moxley and Kings of the Black Throne facing FTR in the main event.
This week’s Dynamite took place at the Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut with Excalibur, Tony Schiavone & Nigel McGuinness on commentary.
Match #1: Christian Cage (w/Kip Sabian, Mother Wayne & Nick Wayne) & “Hangman” Adam Page defeated Jay White & Juice Robinson by pinfall. Mother Wayne distracted the referee, which allowed Sabian to hit Juice in the head with Christian’s World Title contract case. Page hit the Deadeye slam on Juice for the pinfall win.
The TBS Champion Mercedes Mone was interviewed by Renee Paquette. Mone was bossing around her ally Kamille. Kris Statlander showed up to fight with Mone & Kamille, which led to Kris tackling Mone and Kamille through a very thin “wall” backstage.
Will Ospreay called out Kyle Fletcher for an in-ring promo. Kyle said that Don Callis didn’t do anything, but open Kyle’s mind to the truth. Kyle claimed that Will was doing it for himself. Kyle said that everything Will does is for himself. Kyle said Will wanted Kyle to succeed, but never as much as Will. Kyle called Will a selfish hypocrite. Kyle mentioned what Will did to Okada and Omega, so in Kyle’s position, Will would do the exact same thing. Will shouted at Kyle wondering if he was nothing like Will or was he just an Ospreay clone? Will said that he stabbed Okada and Omega in the back, but before he did that, he had accomplished a lot in Japan as a champion. Will said that he’s been a champion everywhere he’s been. Will told Kyle he’s done “sod all” on his own. Kyle said he was going to surpass Will and accomplish every single accomplishment that Will had ever had. Kyle wants to prove it at Full Gear – Kyle Fletcher vs. Will Ospreay. Will said Kyle wanted his five minutes of fame. Will claims he is Mr. Pay-Per-View while saying that the four World Champions since he’s been here can’t match what he does on PPV. Will said that this is going to be sweet because he’s lost so much strength in his left arm. Will claimed he couldn’t even feel when his little boy was holding his left hand and Will took that away from him. Will said that Full Gear was right in front of them and Will claimed he’d take everything from Kyle. Fletcher said he’s not just coming for a piece, he’s coming for everything.
There was backup for Fletcher because Lance Archer and Brian Cage showed up in the ring. Will Ospreay had some friends too because Powerhouse Hobbs and Mark Davis joined Will in the ring. That led to a six-man fight where Will knocked Kyle out of the ring and Will hit a plancha on Fletcher on the floor. Archer kicked Davis out of the ring. Hobbs went fighting to the back with Cage.
Match #2: Falls Count Anywhere Match: Roderick Strong defeated Lance Archer by pinfall. Archer had Brian Cage help him, so Matt Taven and Mike Bennett tried to help Strong. Strong hit Archer with a chair along with a jumping knee for the pinfall win on the floor.
That was Roderick Strong’s third win in a row because that means he gets to face MJF at Full Gear. They showed MJF watching at an undisclosed location, which was likely taped in the past. Roderick Strong shouted out Max referring to MJF. Strong said that at Full Gear, this all ends and he’s going to finish this. Konosuke Takeshita, the AEW International Champion, attacked Strong from behind with punches. Adam Cole made the save since was against Takeshita up next.
Match #3: Konosuke Takeshita defeated Adam Cole by pinfall. Takeshita won by using MJF’s Dynamite Diamond Ring to punch Cole for the pinfall win. The referee never saw it. The loss means that Adam Cole won’t be facing MJF at Full Gear since he failed to win three matches in a row. A clip was shown of MJF watching and he was laughing at what just aired. Once again, it looked like a pre-tape with MJF rather than something that was live.
After the match, Roderick Strong went after Takeshita, but Takeshita came back with a low blow kick to the groin. Kyle O’Reilly made the save with a steel chair, but Takeshita left with the AEW International Title. Ricochet went up to Konosuke Takeshita by the entrance area. Ricochet avoided a strike and then Ricochet superkicked Takeshita, who dropped the AEW International Title. Ricochet held up the AEW International Title in his hands.
The trio of Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, and Kyle O’Reilly were in the ring, so it was a reunion from their WWE NXT Undisputed Era days. Cole wanted to shake Kyle’s hand, but Kyle left the ring instead. Cole and Strong touched fists to show they are united.
The Hurt Syndicate’s Bobby Lashley, MVP & Shelton Benjamin were interviewed by Renee Paquette, who mentioned Lashley will face the dangerous Swerve Strickland at Full Gear. MVP put over Lashley’s talents before Lashley spoke. Lashley said that he’ll make an example out of Swerve and he will hurt Swerve. MVP said they’ll be watching Swerve in action later tonight.
Jon Moxley did a promo in the ring while Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta & Marina Shafir were also there. No Pac this week. Moxley spoke about how Orange Cassidy has the chance of a lifetime at Full Gear when he challenges Moxley for the AEW World Title. Moxley said that the pressure is building and Moxley claimed he’s going to make an example out of Orange at Full Gear. Moxley said he was going to stomp Orange’s face in hamburger meat while stomping him so bad that his own mother wouldn’t recognize him. Moxley said that everybody else would see that and they would run and hide. Moxley said he commands the AEW World Championship, so “we have the power.”
Orange Cassidy made his entrance and was joined by Mark Briscoe and Rocky Romero by the entrance area. Orange said he believes that Moxley will do the things that he says he is going to do. Orange said that the AEW World Title represents what pro wrestling can be and Moxley holds it, so he has the power. Orange said the way to get the World Title is to wrestle and he’s good at it because he beat Moxley in the past. Orange said he’ll beat Moxley again and he’ll take the power back. Orange said he needs to get rid of a pawn – Wheeler Yuta. Orange said he’s going to wrestle Yuta and he’s going to remove the pawn that lets Orange get to the king. Yuta said he was no pawn and Claudio told Yuta to shut up. Moxley said we’ll see if Orange can pull the trigger on his friend Yuta. Moxley said that on November 23rd at Full Gear, his message for Orange is this: “Abandon all hope.”
At that point, Jon Moxley left with Shafir, Claudio, and Yuta in the back part of the arena. Darby Allin was there and he jumped off a barricade onto the Death Riders group. That led to Orange Cassidy, Mark Briscoe, and Rocky Romero fighting with the Death Riders guy for a bit. Moxley and Shafir left going to the backstage area. Claudio got into the truck with Moxley and Shafir while Yuta wasn’t with them. Allin jumped into the back of the truck, so Claudio stopped the car. Claudio tackled Allin into the garage door and Claudio did the Giant Swing to Allin into the garage door. Claudio went back into the truck and Yuta jumped into the back of the truck. Claudio drove away. Darby Allin got back up and shouted, “I’m still standing.”
The ROH World Champion Chris Jericho, Big Bill & Bryan Keith were interviewed by Renee Paquette, who mentioned Jericho was challenged by Tomohiro Ishii to an ROH World Title match. Jericho said that he’s known Tomohiro Ishii for over 30 years. Jericho said he was a main eventer while Ishii was a young boy who got him coffee, carried his bags, and washed his back in the shower. Jericho said that Ishii became one of the toughest wrestlers in AEW. Jericho said two years ago they had one of his favorite matches in AEW. Jericho said he accepts Ishii’s challenge for the ROH World Title. Jericho bragged about being a 9-time World Champion.
It was announced that the Chris Jericho-Tomohiro ROH World Title match will be in two weeks on Dynamite in Chicago.
Match #4:Dr. Britt Baker D.MD. defeated Penelope Ford by submission. Baker used the Lockjaw submission for the win. After the match, Serena Deeb appeared on the stage with a flag. Baker had a long distance staredown with Deeb, so that will set up a future match.
Mina Shirakawa was interviewed by Renee Paquette. Mina said she’s so excited for Mariah May’s match against Anna Jay on Collision and then they’ll have a big champagne celebration. Harley Cameron interrupted to challenge Mina to a match on Collision. Mina agreed to the match.
Match #5: Swerve Strickland (w/Prince Nana) defeated Lio Rush by pinfall. Swerve won with his Big Pressure sitout slam.
Swerve Strickland did a promo saying that people want to come after him to try to prove a point. Swerve said that Rush failed. Swerve said that Shelton Benjamin tried to make a name off his name and he got laid down too. Swerve said he’ll remind everybody that it is Swerve’s house. Swerve said “Stamford, Connecticut” (WWE headquarters) that he didn’t want to wait until Full Gear to fight Bobby Lashley, so he called him out right now.
The Hurt Syndicate’s MVP and Bobby Lashley appeared wearing suits. MVP said they liked Swerve a lot and the reason they recruited him is because he had so much potential. Lashley took his jacket off, so MVP said it looks like Lashley is ready to fight right now. MVP said there’s a lesson to learn and that is that there is strength in numbers. That led to Shelton Benjamin hitting Swerve from behind with a forearm, which we all knew was coming. Shelton sent Swerve out of the ring, so Lashley clotheslined Swerve on the floor. Lashley sent Swerve into the barricade a few times. Lashley tossed Swerve into the ring, so Shelton hit Swerve with a DDT. MVP choked Prince Nana with his cane. Lashley gave Swerve a huge spinebuster. Lashley applied the Full Nelson submission (previously known as the Hurt Lock for Lashley) and Swerve sold it like he passed out. Lashley let go of Swerve, who was out on the mat on his chest. Security and referees finally showed up to try to stop this. Lashley grabbed Nana and sent Nana into the turnbuckle, so Nana took an awkward bump to the floor. The Hurt Business celebrated their actions.
Jamie Hayter was interviewed backstage by Renee Paquette, who asked what was next for Hayter. Jami said she’s back to right the wrongs. Hayter said she was coming after one thing and the lights went out briefly.
A video aired about Julia Hart in a darkened room with blood on her shirt. Julia answered a phone telling her to come home – it was Brody King. Hart said she didn’t know where she was. A creepy video aired of Hart in a room with red lights while she was handed her hat.
Match #6: Kings of the Black Throne – Brody King & Malakai Black defeated FTR – Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood by submission. King nailed Dax with two clotheslines for two counts. King applied a sleeper hold to Dax, who passed out in the hold, so King won for his team by submission. After the match, the teams shook hands. The AEW Tag Team Champions Private Party watched the match from the stage.
The win by the Kings of the Black Throne means that they are going on to Full Gear in a four-way match for the AEW Tag Team Titles along with the champions Private Party and The Outrunners. The fourth team will be determined on Collision this Saturday: The Acclaimed (Max Caster & Anthony Bowens) vs. LFI (Rush & Dralistico). Collision is taped on Thursday this week.
