It was AEW Dynamite featuring two huge Continental Classic semifinal matches on the final Dynamite episode of 2023.
This episode took place at the Addition Arena in Orlando, Florida. The announcers were Excalibur, Tony Schiavone and Taz.
Match #1: Continental Classic Gold League Finals – Jon Moxley defeated Jay White and Swerve by pinfall. Moxley pinned White with a Death Rider DDT. It was a three segment match.
Swerve Strickland did an interview backstage after the match saying that he heard Keith Lee talking about him. The Swerve/Lee match was made for AEW Worlds End.
Mariah May was interviewed by Renee Paquette leading to May saying her debut match is next week on Dynamite. Riho chased May into the ring, Toni Storm tried to help May, but Riho jumped onto Storm & Luther at ringside. Riho posed with the AEW Women’s Title held by Storm since they have a match at AEW Worlds End.
A video aired featuring Miro challenging Andrade El Idolo to a match. It was made official for AEW Worlds End.
There was a lengthy promo segment with the Don Callis Family to celebrate Boxing Week. Don had paintings for Powerhouse Hobbs, Konosuke Takehista & ROH TV Champion Kyle Fletcher. Sammy Guevera interrupted since he was in Don’s group. Don unveiled a Sammy painting with the guys and Sammy’s new baby. Sammy didn’t like that. Callis ripped on Sammy for not being mature enough to be a father, so Sammy shoved him.
The Don Callis Family attacked Sammy until Chris Jericho made the save. Sammy and Jericho hugged, but they were attacked by AEW Tag Team Champions Big Bill & Ricky Starks. The lights went out leading to Sting & Darby Allin joining the fight by attacking Bill & Starks. The teams stared at each other to end it.
Match #2: Continental Classic Blue League Finals – Eddie Kingston defeated Bryan Danielson by pinfall. Kingston won with a spinning back fist followed by a Powerbomb into the pin. It was a three segment match.
After the match, Jon Moxley said all he’s ever asked of Eddie is to give 100%. Moxley said that for a guy who thinks the whole world is against him, Eddie has a lot of people who love him. Moxley said that he knows Kingston better than Eddie knows himself. Moxley said that Eddie had already lost. Eddie told Moxley not to treat him like his “young boy, bitch” Yuta. Eddie said that he was going to push Moxley. Eddie said when he almost quit AEW, Moxley wouldn’t let him quit because they needed Eddie to help shape the younger guys. Eddie said he’s going to bust him up and he’s going to enjoy it.
The TNT Champion Christian Cage was backstage about to be interviewed by Lexy Nair, but Adam Copeland showed up to brawl with Christian. There were security guys that showed up, but then Copeland beat them up. A bunch of AEW wrestlers and officials emptied out of the locker room to separate Adam-Christian. Adam shouted: “You’re mine.” Christian shouted that Copeland was a coward.
Match #3: Skye Blue defeated Kris Statlander by pinfall. Julia Hart interfered in the match to help Blue, who hit a Code Blue off the turnbuckle for the win. Post match, Hart & Blue attacked Kris, so Willow Nightingale made the save. Abadon showed up after that to stare at Hart since Abadon is against at Worlds End.
Before the main event tag team match, Samoa Joe was shown on the ground backstage holding his right knee as if he was attacked.
Match #4: Two Guys Dressed In Black defeated MJF by pinfall to become the new ROH Tag Team Champions. MJF fought alone while a third masked guy hit MJF in the shoulder with a steel pipe. A masked guy hit a Heatseeker DDT on MJF and put his feet on the ropes to get the win.
After the match, four masked guys attacked MJF. Samoa Joe went to the ring with a steel chair and the four guys in black left with the ROH Tag Team Titles. The Devil image appeared on the screen. It said: “Pleasure doing business with you.”
MJF had his back to Joe because they were looking at the screen, so Joe hit MJF in the back with a steel chair to the bad left shoulder of MJF. The announcers realized that Joe made a deal with The Devil. Joe was moving around fine so he was never attacked. Joe yelled “I did this to you” to MJF. Joe hit the Muscle Buster. Joe posed with the AEW World Title over a fallen MJF. That was the end of the show.
