Zelina Vega Recalls Telling The Rock She “Didn’t Want Anything To Do With Wrestling”

WWE’s resident Queen, Zelina Vega has recalled a 2017 conversation with The Rock where she confessed that she no longer wanted anything to do with wrestling.

Zelina Vega signed for WWE in the early part of Summer 2017 after making numerous brief appearances with the company since 2014, first trying out the company a year before. Ahead of arriving in WWE alongside Andrade, Vega wrestled in IMPACT Wrestling where she won the Knockouts Tag Team Championship.

While Zelina Vega in currently enjoying the best run of her career after returning to WWE in July 2021, the star has admitted that there were times when she was ready to leave wrestling behind. Speaking in a recent interview with Ryan Satin on his Out of Character podcast, Vega recalled telling WWE legend The Rock that she was ready to quit.

Vega revealed that she felt she was done with wrestling after being rejected again by WWE.

“It was 2017 and I remember texting Dwayne and telling him, ‘Dude, I’m about to give up on literally everything wrestling. I don’t want anything to do with wrestling anymore. This is the umpteenth time WWE has said no to me. I’m over this. I don’t want to do this anymore.’ He said just give me a few days. I have something that I’m working on.”

That “something” that The Rock was working on turned out to be Fighting With My Family, the movie based on the life of former Women’s Champion Paige.

“Then Dwayne calls me and goes, ‘Hey, I’ve got this opportunity for you.’ He told me that Paige has this documentary and he’s going into detail about her family and this and that. He asked: ‘Do you remember when she came back and beat AJ for the title? I want you to be my Divas Champion and you don’t even have to audition for the part. I know you can do it.’ I was like, what!”

Zelina Vega left WWE in late 2020, due to her opposition to the company’s stance on Superstar’s appearing on third-party platforms such as Twitch.

However, she later returned to WWE, making her comeback on the July 2nd episode of SmackDown. During her conversation with Satin, Vega revealed that she again spoke to The Great One just before making her return.

Since returning, Zelina Vega went on to win the first ever Queen’s Crown tournament at Crown Jewel, making her ‘Queen Zelina.’
